BYD wants to take everything in Europe now!

BYD Eutope

Citadines, SUVs, pick-ups, sports cars, and luxury vehicles: with BYD, DENZA, and YANGWANG, the Chinese giant is accelerating a European strategy that leaves almost no segment untouched.

BYD’s offensive in Europe is clearly changing dimensions. After establishing its presence with relatively mainstream electric and plug-in hybrid models, the world’s leading manufacturer of electrified vehicles is now expanding its playing field at an impressive speed. With its three brands BYD, DENZA, and YANGWANG, the Chinese group intends to cover nearly the entire market.

BYD naturally forms the first stage of the rocket. The new DOLPHIN G DM-i is set to strengthen its presence among compact models with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a reported total range of 1,040 km. At the other end of the spectrum, the SHARK demonstrates how far the manufacturer wants to expand its catalog. This 435 hp pick-up claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds, 88 km of electric range, and a towing capacity of 2.5 tons.

BYD attacks the high-end market

But the true acceleration comes from DENZA. The premium brand is preparing its European development with the Z9GT and the D9 DM-i minivan, while already expanding its territory. The BAO 5 SUV combines a 2.0 turbo engine with three electric motors via DM-o technology, while the new Z Coupé and Z Racing aim to place DENZA in the realm of electric sports cars.

The Z Coupé adopts a three-motor architecture and aims for 350 km/h while maintaining a 2+2 configuration. Even more radical, the Z Racing features specific aerodynamics and numerous carbon fiber elements.

And BYD does not stop at premium. With YANGWANG, the group is directly targeting luxury and ultra-performance. The hypercar U9 Xtreme serves as a technological demonstrator, accompanied by the large sedan U7 and the imposing SUV U8L, which is notably capable of temporarily floating on water.

This multiplication of models primarily reveals BYD’s strategy: to no longer be identified merely as a Chinese manufacturer of affordable electric cars. From compact vehicles to hypercars, including SUVs, minivans, pick-ups, and sports cars, the group is rapidly building a true automotive empire. And Europe has clearly become one of its main battlegrounds.
