For the 100th anniversary of the Nürburgring, BMW is preparing nine special edition models, featuring exclusive paint and nods to the circuit. However, French enthusiasts might be left wanting.
Some anniversaries are celebrated with a cake and a few candles. At BMW, they prefer to gather six sports cars and three motorcycles, then paint the celebration green. Everyone has their idea of a successful party.
To celebrate the centenary of the Nürburgring, inaugurated in 1927, BMW M and BMW Motorrad are presenting a collection named “100 Jahre Nürburgring”. A name that feels more like hot rubber than pastry, this collection will be available on the M2, M3 Sedan and Touring, M4 Coupe, M5 Sedan and Touring models. Busy families will also have their station wagon.
The common denominator? A Nürburgring Green hue, paying homage to the “Green Hell”. Add silhouettes of the Nordschleife, anniversary markings, decorative stripes, and coordinated stitching: it’s hard to claim you chose this BMW solely for its trunk. However, an alternative Black Sapphire option is available for drivers wanting to celebrate discreetly.
The Green Hell Sells
Under the hood, the six cylinders of the M2, M3, and M4 benefit from BMW M Ignite technology. This pre-chamber combustion aims to improve performance under heavy load and reduce consumption on the track, according to the manufacturer. Even when pushing hard, saving a few drops remains a respectable ambition. Motorcyclists are not forgotten: the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R, and M 1000 XR will each be limited to 100 units, featuring carbon wheels and an embroidered seat. Even the garage mat joins in the festivities.
Still, there’s a little detail that calms the excitement: none of the six anniversary cars will be available on the French market. Availability for the motorcycles will be specified later. Here, the celebration begins mainly with the eyes. That’s still something saved.
