Alfa Romeo drops this model by 20,000 euros. Here’s why.

Crippled by the ecological penalty, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV boasting 520 horsepower is forced to revise its price by 20,000 euros.

The four-leaf clover – Quadrifoglio… – does not bring luck to the Stelvio. This wild model is unfortunately unknown, as the heart that beats within it is powered by Ferrari. Normally, that should have been enough to make it a star. This SUV with incredible performance is obviously suffering from the still too light brand image of Alfa Romeo, and few customers are willing to pay 164,000 euros for such a product.

164,900 euros, you read that right. It breaks down as follows: 104,900 euros catalog price + 60,000 euros ecological penalty due to its emissions of 267 g of CO2 per kilometer. The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 has power and a healthy appetite, with official consumption rated at 11.8 liters. Expect real consumption closer to 15 liters, as the temptation to floor it is strong. The absence of even mild hybridization has thus doomed the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

An Interesting Discount?

At first glance, a 20,000 euro discount without even negotiating is quite striking. It brings the price down to 84,900 euros (excluding the penalty) and thus puts it in competition with other toys of the same caliber like… well, actually nothing anymore. This concept of a 100% thermal SUV has completely disappeared from the catalogs of major manufacturers. The Porsche Macan has gone electric, while Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and others are all at least hybrid to lower the penalty below 180g of CO2/km.

So, at still 144,900 euros before options, only eccentric customers will still fall under the charm of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Especially since there is a catch: this price is guaranteed if you limit customization. The ultra-sporty carbon bucket seats at 2,550 euros? They raise the bill to 91,250 euros. Hmm…

The next Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio will be hybrid or not at all. As of now, the latter option seems to be the one leading the way (to the gallows).
