Changing a car as popular as the Clio is no small feat. With this sixth generation, Renault has dared to adopt a more assertive style and a premium feel. The first commercial results are promising: 38,693 Clio 6 models have been registered in France between January and September 2026, according to PFA/AAA Data. The city car thus secures the third place in the market, behind the Peugeot 208 and the Dacia Sandero.
This performance deserves to be put into context. Having been delivered since the beginning of 2026, the newcomer still shares the market with the Clio 5, which has a total of 21,819 registrations over nine months. Together, they reach 60,512 units, ahead of the 56,515 Peugeot 208. This handover allows the Clio family to retain the top spot in France while gradually establishing its new representative.
The Clio affirms its status
September confirms this good positioning. With 5,618 registrations, the Clio 6 also climbs to the third step of the monthly podium, ahead of the Sandero. It already constitutes a commercial pillar for Renault, despite the coexistence of the two generations.
Another reason for satisfaction: the first indicators reinforce its more upscale positioning. Launched at 19,900 euros for the petrol version and 24,600 euros for the 160 hp hybrid, the Clio aims to appeal in ways other than just its price. In April, Renault Germany indicated that 75% of the orders for the full hybrid version were for the Techno or Esprit Alpine trims. This local result suggests that the move upmarket is finding its audience.
The Clio 6 still needs to secure the top spot on its own, but its beginnings are solid. Renault already has a well-established succession plan for its essential best-seller.
