Should the Renault 5 be worried about the Leapmotor B03?

With an announced range of 390 km and a recharge time of 21 minutes, the Leapmotor B03 aims to challenge the electric Renault 5.

The Renault 5 has charm, history, and a shape that attracts attention. To steal customers, the Leapmotor B03 will need to offer more than just a new interpretation of the electric city car. Presented at the Paris Motor Show, the Chinese vehicle nonetheless has some arguments that could make buyers think.

First advantage: Leapmotor claims up to 390 km of WLTP range. Second promise: a recharge from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes under optimal conditions. This opens up possibilities beyond just commuting, although a test will need to confirm its actual performance.

Inside, the B03 focuses on practicality: modular rear seats, multiple storage options, and a central 14.6-inch screen compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Heated seats and steering wheel are also among the announced features, with the distribution by trim level yet to be clarified.

A price below €20,000 still hypothetical

It is obviously on the price tag that this confrontation could become interesting. Rumors in the aisles of the Motor Show suggest an entry price below €20,000. But be careful: this amount is not an official French price. Just a hypothesis, presumably with a small battery. It would therefore be misleading to promise both this price and the 390 km of range simultaneously.

On the other side, the Renault 5 retains its arguments: manufactured in Douai, strong personality, and a range that can reach 430 km depending on the version. All these factors prevent the duel from being reduced to a comparison of screens.

Should the French brand be worried? Not yet. The B03 clearly deserves its place on the list of models to watch. But to turn an appealing technical sheet into a real commercial threat, Leapmotor must now reveal a French range, its features, and above all, its prices.
