Tesla Roadster: Promised to the Lightning, Overcome by the Rain

The presentation of the Tesla Roadster has been postponed again, this time due to… bad weather!

At Tesla, they promise to revolutionize the automobile. But for presenting a car, it’s better to check the weather. Originally scheduled for October 1, the next appearance of the Roadster is postponed to October 15. The manufacturer cites strong storms that are forecast and explains that its event must take place outdoors. After the flexible timelines, we now have weather forecasts.

Obviously, no one is asking to expose guests to a dangerous storm. What is amusing is the accumulation. Unveiled in prototype form in November 2017, promised for 2020, the Roadster is nearing nine years of waiting. At this point, its best-documented performance remains its ability to push back deadlines. For a sports car that is supposed to shatter records, the launch is starting to feel frankly laborious.

The expected staging around the cold gas thrusters developed with SpaceX certainly keeps the suspense alive. A car capable of briefly leaving the ground? The idea is dreamy. A car finally available would already be a significant innovation.

Meanwhile, Starship is orbiting the planet. On September 28, the gigantic SpaceX vehicle reached orbit and deployed 26 Starlink satellites. Granted, its flight was cut short, with a return after about three hours. But it did actually leave its launch pad. In the Musk universe, putting satellites into orbit seems to be progressing faster than definitively presenting a roadster.

So, see you on October 15. Provided that the sky, schedules, and promises finally align. This Roadster is certainly born under a bad star. Ironically for a car that relies on SpaceX to take off.
