This Volvo that has traveled 5.2 million kilometers will be the star of Rétromobile 2027

For its 100th anniversary, Volvo will gather a dozen historic models at Rétromobile 2027, including the incredible 1800S of Irv Gordon.

Volvo will kick off its centenary celebrations in Paris. Before the anniversary date of April 14, 2027, the Swedish manufacturer will be in the spotlight at the Rétromobile 2027 Show, where an exhibition will bring together about a dozen vehicles in Pavilion 4 of Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.

The centerpiece will be the Volvo 1800S of Irv Gordon, which is also featured in the official poster of the show. This car, associated with the record for the greatest distance driven by a single owner, now shows 3,260,257 miles, or 5,246,875 kilometers. Usually exhibited at the World of Volvo in Sweden, it will provide a very tangible demonstration of the brand’s longevity reputation.

Alongside, visitors will find the 1927 ÖV4, the first Volvo model, a PV655 from 1933, as well as a Duett, which paved the way for the long line of Swedish station wagons. The Amazon and two variations of the P1800 family will also be part of the journey. The latter owes part of its fame to the series The Saint, in which Roger Moore drove the coupe.

Safety as the Guiding Principle

The exhibition will also highlight the manufacturer’s innovations. The Amazon will notably illustrate the adoption of the three-point seat belt, for which Volvo made the patent freely available to other brands. A crash test vehicle, recognizable by its orange paint, will also be displayed.

This section will link the historic models to current developments, featuring the multi-adaptive seat belt of the EX60, which adjusts its function according to the occupant and the circumstances.

For Rétromobile, this centenary thus offers a subject that goes beyond just collector models: the evolution of the family car, its design, and the protection of its passengers over a century.
