The judges even impose a 17% uphill start and a 26% downhill braking test. Enough to ensure that the towing doesn’t turn your vacation into a remake of The Wages of Fear.

Diesel still plays a role

The winner is a Superb estate SE L equipped with a 2.0 TDI engine producing 193 hp, a DSG transmission, and all-wheel drive. The judges praised its smoothness, comfort, and ability to absorb movements transmitted by the caravan. In short, it stays calm when the house moves behind.

Škoda also sweeps the categories for caravans weighing 1,600 to 1,700 kg and family towing vehicles. A triple victory without champagne on the podium, but with solid practical arguments.

Because this competition also examines the trunk space, the height of the tow hitch, and the available space for equipment. Less glamorous than a lap time on the track? Certainly. More useful for carrying a folding table without divorcing before the trip? Probably.
