Volvo strengthens its plug-in hybrid SUVs with Long Range versions, promising up to 200 km of electric range for the XC60 and 162 km for the XC90.

The plug-in hybrid is moving closer to the usage of an electric car. On September 15, Volvo presents new Long Range variants of its XC60 and XC90, intended for Europe and the United States. Their promise: to extend the periods between refueling thanks to a higher battery range.

According to the manufacturer, the distance traveled without engaging the gasoline engine is more than two and a half times that of the current versions. The XC60 claims up to 200 kilometers, compared to 162 kilometers for the large seven-seat XC90. This opens the possibility for numerous daily commutes on electric power, provided regular charging.

This advancement is based on a larger capacity battery, integrated into the floor, and a more powerful electric motor. However, Volvo does not specify in this announcement their sizing, powers, or charging times. Pricing is also notably absent.

The XC60 also changes its appearance

The XC60 accompanies this technical evolution with an aesthetic redesign. The grille, hood, front wings, and bumpers are evolving, as well as the tailgate and rear lights. The Matrix LED headlights refine the lighting signature in “Thor’s hammer” style.

Inside, the dashboard and door panels have been redesigned. The central 11.2-inch screen features Volvo Car UX, equipped with Google Gemini conversational assistant as standard, also offered on the XC90.

The driving aids of the XC60 are also improving: emergency automatic steering, door opening alerts when a cyclist approaches, and a 360-degree camera with 3D view are part of the program.

Orders are open in France starting September 15. Production will begin this fall. We are still waiting to know the prices to assess the interest of this offer.
