Used electric car: what assistance will you be entitled to starting September 1st?
Starting September 1, 2026, purchasing a used electric car will allow you to benefit from a new assistance program.
However, between the 337 euros available to the general public and the approximately 2,000 euros reserved for certain professionals, it is best to know the rules of this new electric bonus.
The bonus for used electric cars is making a comeback. Or almost. A decree published in the Official Journal on August 12 creates a new assistance funded by energy savings certificates (CEE). It will be applicable from September 1, 2026, for the purchase or leasing of a used electric vehicle.
About 337 euros for individuals
For the average driver, there’s no chance of seeing the previous ecological bonus of 1,000 euros. The new CEE sheet TRA-EQ-133 corresponds to assistance estimated at around 337 euros per vehicle. This amount is not entirely fixed as it depends on the valuation of the CEE.
To benefit from this, several conditions are imposed. The car must be 100% electric, must have been registered for the first time in France between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2023, and must be purchased or leased from an automotive professional. Its battery must also show a health status of over 80%, or meet the equivalent criterion of residual autonomy as specified in the text.
Another important condition: the vehicle must be kept for at least three years. Moreover, the bonus can only be awarded once for the same car, to prevent a used vehicle from generating CEE multiple times.
Up to about 2,000 euros for home care assistance
The program becomes significantly more generous for certain home care professionals. Until December 31, 2026, a bonus allows reaching approximately 2,000 euros, under conditions, particularly for vehicles costing a maximum of 25,000 euros and weighing less than 1,800 kg.

For individuals, the 337 euros thus represent more of a small boost than a true bonus. However, in a used electric market where some models are now offered for under 15,000 euros, any reduction is welcome.
