Skoda Peaq: Who Really Needs Such a Huge Electric SUV?

With its seven seats, 4.87 m in length, and over 640 km of range, the Skoda Peaq aims high, but for what clientele?

The Skoda Peaq is now an industrial reality. The production of the new 7-seater electric SUV has just begun in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic, on the same line as the Skoda Enyaq, Elroq, and Octavia. This is a significant arrival as it becomes the largest model in the Skoda range.

And indeed, the Peaq is large. With a length of 4.87 m and nearly 3 m of wheelbase, it clearly emphasizes space. Its battery reaches 91 kWh gross in its higher variant, allowing a WLTP range that can exceed 640 km. Power outputs range from 150 to 220 kW, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options.

A Peaq for large families?

The essential question remains: who buys such a large electric SUV?

Certainly not someone simply looking for an electric vehicle for urban commuting. The Skoda Peaq targets larger families, high-mileage drivers, and motorists wishing to replace a large SUV or a thermal minivan without giving up on travel. With seven seats and up to 935 liters of trunk space in five-seat configuration, its advantages are primarily practical.

The Peaq thus positions itself in the still-limited market of large family electric SUVs, facing competitors such as the Peugeot E-5008 or the Kia EV9. In this segment, significant dimensions can paradoxically be better justified than in a five-seat SUV: here, every additional centimeter is really used to carry passengers and luggage.

It remains to be seen how many Europeans need so much space. Skoda already has a first answer: nearly 8,500 Peaq vehicles had been ordered by the end of July, just a few weeks after its commercial launch.

The Czech electric giant thus seems to have found its clientele even before it has truly hit the road.
