The NHTSA has opened an investigation involving nearly 1.2 million Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, which could lead to a large-scale recall.
On July 31, 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the U.S. authority in charge of road safety, opened a preliminary investigation targeting nearly 1.2 million Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The agency received 156 complaints reporting a possible failure of the front lower lateral suspension arm, a crucial component of the front suspension.
The affected vehicles are the Tesla Model 3 manufactured between 2018 and 2020 as well as the Model Y from the 2021 to 2023 model years. According to NHTSA documents, this part could disconnect from the vehicle while in motion, leading to a loss of steering control and immobilizing the car.
