Denza Z: the electric supercar with 1,604 hp that could overshadow traditional sports cars

More than just a concept, the Denza Z raises a crucial question: are we ready to accept that the future of the sports car is now electric?

With 1,604 hp, a 0 to 100 km/h in 1.96 seconds in its Racing version, and a charging capability that goes from 10 to 97% in just nine minutes, the Denza Z is no longer playing in the category of electric sports cars. The new supercar from DENZA, the premium brand of the BYD group, directly competes with the most exclusive hypercars… for a price close to that of a Porsche 911.

Beyond the technological demonstration, it is this equation that stands out. While developing a thermal engine of over 1,500 hp would require years of research and huge investments, a three-motor electric architecture today allows for achieving these performances with far greater efficiency and lower development costs.

The Denza Z symbolizes this break. With an 800 V architecture, vector torque control, DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, and Flash Charging of up to 1,500 kW: electric power is not just replacing the thermal engine, it is completely changing the rules of the game.

A car to live fast and less fast?

And the most surprising aspect may perhaps lie elsewhere. Once the Track or Boost modes are disabled, the Denza Z becomes almost an ordinary car. Despite its 1,604 hp, this four-seater sports car drives with the simplicity of a family electric sedan. No clutch, no temperamental engine to keep in its ideal range, no gearbox to master. Power is available instantly but remains perfectly manageable, while numerous electronic aids make its daily use surprisingly accessible. This ease would have seemed completely inconceivable in a thermal supercar developing equivalent power.

Of course, mechanical enthusiasts will continue to prefer the character of a Porsche flat-six or the sound of a naturally aspirated V8. A sports car is not just a technical specification, and the pleasure of driving retains a strong emotional dimension.

But the industrial reality is now hard to ignore. Thanks to electrification, producing a car with over 1,500 hp is becoming almost mundane. Performances once reserved for a few multi-million euro hypercars are now accessible at a price comparable to that of a high-end sports car.
