Smart #2: the reinvented fortwo for the electric city
With its concept #2, Smart unveils the first technical and stylistic orientations of its future two-seater electric city car.
While the Smart fortwo has marked the history of urban mobility with over two million units sold, the brand is preparing its successor. In Rome for an event dedicated to the future #2, Smart lifted the veil on the design concept of the model’s interior as well as the features of its new technical platform ECA.
Designed specifically for European city centers, the future Smart #2 aims to retain the DNA that made the fortwo successful while adapting to the expectations of the electric era. The manufacturer highlights a compact design, reduced overhangs, and an optimized architecture to maximize the available space on board.

The interior is one of the main focuses of the project. The future city car will adopt a full bench seat, an unusual solution in the segment, aimed at enhancing the feeling of space and blurring the traditional separation between driver and passenger. The S-shaped dashboard and the clean organization of the cabin also aim to improve ergonomics and the perception of quality.
How to reinvent itself?
From a technical standpoint, the ECA platform has been specifically developed for this ultra-compact electric vehicle. Smart announces a turning radius of just 6.95 meters, a figure close to that of the old fortwo and particularly suited for urban maneuvers.

The brand also mentions a 35.7 kWh battery, a target range close to 300 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, and fast charging that allows it to go from 10 to 80% in under 20 minutes. Safety is not overlooked, with a new generation of cell, an iconic element of smart’s identity.
