Mercedes VLE

With the VLE, Mercedes-Benz launches a new generation of large electric family vehicles focusing on autonomy, modularity, and comfort.

Long dominated by SUVs, the family vehicle market may soon see the emergence of a new alternative with the VLE. Mercedes is introducing a groundbreaking model that will gradually succeed the current Class V and EQV while debuting the new VAN.EA electric platform from the German manufacturer.

Measuring 5.31 meters in length, the VLE positions itself halfway between a traditional MPV, a premium shuttle, and a luxury sedan. Its goal is clear: to offer a level of comfort and refinement comparable to that of a large touring car while retaining the versatility expected of a vehicle capable of accommodating up to eight occupants.

The interior is one of its main selling points. Depending on the configuration chosen, the VLE can accommodate five to eight seats and offer different types of seating, some equipped with massage functions or leg rests. The rear seats can be moved or removed to prioritize cargo space, which can exceed 4,000 liters in certain configurations. The trunk volume is nearly 800 liters with three rows of seats in place.

The VLE Wants to Travel Far

On the technical side, Mercedes claims a range of over 700 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, thanks to a 115 kWh battery. The manufacturer also relies on an 800-volt electric architecture that allows for charging powers above 300 kW. Under the best conditions, up to 355 kilometers of range could be recovered in just fifteen minutes.

The VLE also aims to distinguish itself through its road behavior. Despite its imposing size, it features rear-wheel steering capable of reducing its turning radius to 10.9 meters. An AIRMATIC air suspension system is also offered to enhance comfort and stability on long journeys.

In terms of technology, the newcomer adopts the MB.OS operating system and the latest generation of the MBUX multimedia system. Several level 2 driving aids are announced, with potential updates available through over-the-air updates.
