Fiat Grizzly: A Family Resemblance That’s Just Too Obvious?

At Stellantis, sharing has become an art. And sometimes even an exercise in “spot the differences” in the case of these Fiats.

With the first official images of the future Fiat Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback, it is indeed hard not to have a sense of déjà vu.

The Grizzly, presented as a spacious and accessible family SUV, strikingly resembles the lines of the Citroën C5 Aircross. The same robust silhouette, the same overall architecture, the same philosophy of a living vehicle. As for the Grizzly Fastback, its sloping rear and dynamic profile immediately evoke the Peugeot 408. One might think that the Italian designers spent a little more time than expected in the French studios of the group…

It must be said that the strategy is fully embraced. Stellantis is fully leveraging its STLA platforms to reduce development and production costs. An unstoppable industrial logic that then allows for more competitive pricing for customers. In theory, everyone wins: the manufacturer improves its profitability, and the driver benefits from better-controlled prices.

And the brand identity in all this?

However, there remains a crucial question: how far can sharing go without diluting the identity of brands? Because if Fiat claims to have its own DNA, made of simplicity, friendliness, and Latin design, it still needs to ensure that its models are immediately identifiable as Fiats. The risk, due to continuous rationalization, is that the various brands of the group converge towards the same aesthetic recipe. This will probably not prevent the future Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback from being appealing. With less than 4.50 m in length, engine options ranging from gasoline to 100% electric, and a clear family-oriented purpose, they check all the boxes of the current market. But to fully convince, Fiat will need to prove that behind this common technical base beats an Italian heart.
