Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI

The new Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI aims to prove that an electric sports car can replace a combustion compact without frustration.

With its new ID. Polo GTI, Volkswagen opens a new chapter in its history. Fifty years after the birth of the first Golf GTI, the German manufacturer unveils its first 100% electric GTI. And on paper, this sporty compact has what it takes to make us forget about traditional engines.

Under the hood, or rather under the floor, the ID. Polo GTI features an electric motor with 226 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Thanks to the instant response of electric power, it achieves 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. This performance allows this small electric GTI to compete with several much more powerful gasoline compact sports cars.

An electric GTI designed for driving pleasure

Volkswagen claims to have maintained the GTI DNA with an electronic limited-slip front differential, an adaptive DCC chassis, and specific progressive steering. The new “GTI” driving mode automatically adjusts the settings for the engine, chassis, and steering to provide a more sporty behavior.

A little touch of style, the design also incorporates the historical codes of the GTI: red accents at the front, honeycomb grille, tartan-patterned seats, and a black and red interior ambiance. Volkswagen even adds a retro display inspired by the Golf I GTI to the digital instrumentation.

The 52 kWh battery allows for a claimed range of up to 424 km WLTP. On a fast charger, charging from 10 to 80% takes about 24 minutes.
