Arrival of Xiaomi in France: where do we stand?

The Chinese giant Xiaomi is clearly ramping up its automotive ambitions in Europe and France.

While Xiaomi is already well established in France through smartphones, connected devices, and Mi Store outlets, the real focus in 2026 is now on electric cars.

In recent days, several strong signals have confirmed that Xiaomi is actively preparing its European offensive. Prototypes of the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan have notably been spotted in France, near Montpellier, as part of homologation testing for the European market.

According to information revealed during the Investor Day 2026, Xiaomi officially aims to launch its electric vehicles in Europe in the second half of 2027. The manufacturer has already opened a European research and development center in Munich, led by former BMW executives, with over 100 engineers mobilized to adapt the models to European standards and expectations.

France in Xiaomi’s sights

France appears to be a strategic market. Xiaomi already enjoys strong brand recognition there thanks to its premium smartphones and excellent value for money. The brand is also ramping up local marketing initiatives, such as its recent partnership with the French National Basketball League.

On the automotive side, the SU7 particularly intrigues observers. In China, the model has seen spectacular success and directly competes with Tesla in the high-end electric sedan segment. Xiaomi now aims to produce up to 550,000 electric vehicles by 2026.

However, no official commercial launch is yet planned in France before 2027. Xiaomi is currently pursuing technical validation phases, distribution, and structuring of its future European network. One thing is certain: after disrupting the smartphone market, the group now wants to become a major player in electric mobility in Europe.
