New Toyota bZ4X: Better in Every Way?

Toyota relaunches its bZ4X electric SUV with a complete redesign, offering more power, more range, and improved comfort.

To date, the Toyota bZ4X, the manufacturer’s first 100% electric model, has had a chaotic career, far from Toyota’s initial ambitions and what its qualities should allow. The unusual name of the model, to say the least, may have hindered its notoriety, but with this new version, Toyota finally seems determined to make its electric SUV shine.

The new bZ4X benefits from a complete overhaul of its 100% electric powertrain. Two battery capacities are offered: 57.7 kWh and 73.1 kWh, providing up to 569 km of range in the WLTP cycle and optimized urban charging times thanks to a 22 kW onboard charger available from the Lounge trim. The new batteries, developed with Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, contain more cells and feature an improved pre-conditioning system that enhances charging, even in winter conditions.

The eAxles have been revised for improved power and efficiency: the all-wheel-drive version reaches up to 343 hp, while the front-wheel-drive version offers 224 hp. The all-wheel-drive system is paired with X-MODE and Grip Control systems, providing real off-road capabilities and the ability to cross fords up to 50 cm. The Multi-Terrain Monitor and the Panoramic View Monitor ensure complete visibility around the vehicle, making maneuvers and crossings easier.

The bZ4X aims to please

The interior has been redesigned for more comfort and modernity. The horizontal dashboard houses a 14-inch multimedia screen and a central console in a “digital island” layout. Calibrated suspensions, increased structural rigidity, and enhanced acoustic optimization improve comfort and road handling. Outside, the “hammerhead” design inspires robustness and sportiness, with a drag coefficient lowered to 0.27, 18 or 20-inch wheels, and a wide range of colors.

The Toyota safety and driving assistance technologies are comprehensive: Toyota Safety Sense, Proactive Driving Assistance, Lane Trace Assist, Safe Exit Assist, and remote software updates. The MyToyota app allows for managing charging, climate control, trip tracking, and offers a convenient digital key.

The new Toyota bZ4X is available for order in France and comes in four trims: Design, Design Business, Lounge, and Collection. Its starting price is €40,900 for the 167 hp Design version. The “Long Range” version (224 hp) starts at €44,900, up to €51,900 depending on the trim. The “Performance AWD” version (343 hp) is priced between €47,400 and €54,400.
