Volkswagen ID Aero: Here is the upcoming large electric sedan
This page is translated from the original post "Volkswagen ID Aero : voici la future grande berline électrique" in French.

While awaiting the series version arriving in Europe in 2023, the Volkswagen ID Aero concept previews the electric sedan.
They are so rare that we had forgotten about them. Sedans have gradually disappeared from the automotive market, replaced by the now dominant SUVs. But the success of the Tesla Model 3 is enough to make others envious, particularly Volkswagen, the number one car brand in Europe.
A third concept for Volkswagen’s electric sedan
It all started back in March 2018 at the Geneva Motor Show, where the predecessor of today’s news was introduced. The German brand unveiled the I.D. Vizzion concept, a futuristic illustration of an electric sedan. Then in November 2019 at the Beijing Motor Show, the second concept, ID. Space Vizzion, presented a more realistic station wagon version.

For summer 2022, the Volkswagen ID. Aero is therefore aimed to be an even closer version to series production. Basing its front on the famous Golf hatchback, the electric sedan still features design elements from concepts: 22-inch wheels, sculpted mirrors, or fanciful headlights. But it anticipates the upcoming ID.6 (or ID.7?), which will measure nearly 5 meters in length.
The ID. Aero in Europe in 2023
Before these dimensions were known, we thought that the Tesla Model 3 (4.69 m) or the Hyundai Ioniq 6 would be the prime targets. But it seems more likely that it will target the upper segment, without reaching the premium level of Lucid Air or Mercedes EQE.
We also know that the core mid-range battery will have a capacity of 77 kWh, the same as the Volkswagen ID.5 or the recent ID.Buzz. Naturally, the car uses the same MEB platform from the VW group. With this pack, the Volkswagen ID Aero aims to surpass 600 kilometers of range. The concept even claims 620 km per charge, impressive given its size and 22-inch wheels. And what about charging? Will it reach 135 kW like the current group electric cars?
The manufacturer specifies that this ID. Aero concept previews the Chinese version of the sedan. The final electric vehicle would be revealed in 2023 and launched in Europe by the end of the year. Our version will also be produced on the Old Continent, in Emden (Germany).
