Renault 5 Diamant: The Most Stylish of Retrofitted R5s

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5, Renault created a one-of-a-kind version of the car, named “Renault 5 Diamond,” in collaboration with French designer Pierre Gonalons.

Without modifying the iconic lines of the R5, Pierre Gonalons and Renault’s Colors and Materials Design teams revised many elements to give it a more modern look. The body features a pink paint with gold pigments that shifts to blue in shaded areas.

Many body parts are finished in a gold hue, which can be seen on the sun motif amid the wheels. These wheels, sourced from an Alpine R5, have been smoothed, painted white, and fitted with a black hubcap. The headlights and taillights aim to evoke the jewelry world with numerous small facets.

Many interior changes

The interior of this unique Renault 5 is unrecognizable. The marble steering wheel remains functional despite its highly intricate shape. The needle instrumentation has been replaced by three round digital display gauges.

The dashboard, which features a central storage compartment for the phone, is finished with horsehair trim. This fabric is crafted in France, as is the special upholstery and other materials used in this transformation. The car also has a fingerprint scanner that allows unlocking the doors.

This somewhat special Renault 5 abandons the internal combustion engine in favor of an all-electric motor. This is not the first time the Diamond has been retrofitted by Renault. This R5 arrives after the 4L e-Plein Air and the 4L Suite N°4, two show cars also converted to electric.

A Renault soon to be auctioned

The Renault 5 Diamond will soon be sold at auction, accompanied by its dual digital NFT. The proceeds will go to a charitable organization.
