Skoda: a concept for the new upcoming electric city car soon?

60% of electric vehicles in total sales by 2030: this is the ambitious goal set by the Volkswagen Group in Europe. To achieve this, the German giant will need to broaden its offerings downward by offering more affordable electric cars.
Skoda will obviously play an important role in this democratization phase. The Czech company has already announced that it is working on an electric city car, which will follow the Citigo e-iV with a slight delay.
In a conference held on July 4th, the French subsidiary of Volkswagen stated that new information would be provided in September. However, the specific intentions of the manufacturer at this stage remain unknown. Since the launch of the city car is expected for 2025, it seems unlikely that Skoda will present the production model so early. The options remaining are either a concept car or a simple teaser.
A Skoda inspired by a Volkswagen?
The base of the car will be shared with the Volkswagen and Cupra brands, which will also use it to develop an electric city car. Skoda has provided an initial glimpse of the style through a sketch (cover image). This suggests that the car will adopt the philosophy of the Volkswagen ID Life concept. It could therefore resemble a small urban SUV with simple, angular features.
On the other hand, Volkswagen is expected to favor a more traditional shape, while Cupra is working on a more aggressive-looking city car, at least visually.

A booming segment
The electric city car from Skoda and its VW group siblings will all be produced in Spain starting from 2025. They will face the Peugeot e-208, which, presumably, will not yet have been renewed in 2025. They will also have to compete with the new Renault 5 and the next-generation Nissan Micra, both expected in 2024. Future Citroën C3 and Lancia Ypsilon models, which like the Peugeot 208 will be offered in both petrol and 100% electric versions, are also worth mentioning.
