Tesla Model Y: The Leader of Electric Cars in Europe

The American SUV Tesla Model Y is by far the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe in June 2022, ahead of the Fiat 500 and the Model 3.

As with every quarter’s end, the manufacturer activated its deliveries to finish on a high note. Thus, the end of spring was very lively, as one of its vehicles took the overall sales throne in Europe.

Tesla Model Y in the Top 10 Across All Motorizations

Tesla Model Y is by far the number 1 electric vehicle in June 2022, according to Jato Dynamics. With 16,687 units, it surpasses the electric Fiat 500 and its 7,269 units, as well as the 6,176 Tesla Model 3. The sedan experienced a significant decline, with sales being divided by four compared to June 2021.

The Peugeot e-208, the best-selling electric car in France, is fourth, ahead of its two cousins Skoda Enyaq and Volkswagen ID.4. The Renault ZOE and Volkswagen ID.3 see nearly half as many sales as last year. Hyundai Kona Electric and Renault Twingo E-Tech are close behind accordingly.

3. Tesla Model 3: 6,176 units (-76%)

7. Renault ZOE E-Tech: 4,390 units (-47%)
8. Volkswagen ID.3: 3,747 units (-47%)
9. Hyundai Kona Electric: 3,626 units (-20%)
10. Renault Twingo E-Tech: 3,558 units (+10%)

By country, the United Kingdom registers the most Tesla Model Y with 4,194 units. It has simply become the second most popular car after the Corsa and the Mini. The second country is Norway, where the SUV is number 1 with 2,533 units and 17% of the market! Following are Germany with 2,144 registrations compared to 1,964 in France and Sweden with 1,876. These five markets together account for more than three-quarters of Model Y sales.

If we take a step back and include all other gasoline, diesel, and hybrid motorization, what about electric? It is known that this propulsion accounted for only 12% of sales in Europe, according to ACEA figures.

3. Opel/Vauxhall Corsa: 19,676 units
4. Fiat 500: 19,500 units
5. Dacia Duster: 19,039 units

8. Renault Captur: 17,556 units
9. Tesla Model Y: 16,687 units
10. Toyota Yaris: 15,216 units

Nevertheless, the Tesla Model Y manages to break into the Top 10. The SUV even ranks 9th, between the Toyota Yaris and Renault Captur, cars that both have hybrid versions. Note that the Peugeot 208, Europe’s number 1 car in June 2022, would be only sixth without electric versions!
