The luxurious Mercedes EQS SUV unveils its prices in France and faces off against the Tesla Model X in the large electric vehicle segment.

And four! Yes, there are now four electric SUVs in the German manufacturer’s lineup, in addition to two sedans. After the formidable EQC in fall 2019, the EQA in early 2021 followed by its family variant EQB, now it’s the turn of the Mercedes EQS SUV.

First units in December

The brand revealed the Mercedes EQS SUV in April. We then learned about the dimensions of the behemoth, measuring 5.12 meters, making it the longest on the market. That’s 9 cm longer than the Tesla Model X and 17 cm compared to the BMW iX

Equivalent to the thermal GLS, available in V8 petrol and V6 diesel versions, it is now 100% electric. It uses the platform of the two EQS and EQE sedans, and will have a smaller EQE SUV sibling at the end of 2022.

The EQS SUV is now officially arriving in France. Its launch takes place this August with orders being taken. However, deliveries of the first units will only occur in December. Production is happening not in Germany, but in the United States, at the Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama.

Only one version of the Mercedes EQS SUV for now

The Mercedes EQS SUV starts at €142,900, or €3,519/month with a 37-month lease (and €14,290 down payment). Of course, this price does not include the ecological bonus. Currently, this electric vehicle is only available in the “EQS 450 4MATIC” version, in AMG Line trim.

It offers a power output of 265 kW (360 hp) and a torque of 800 Nm. It features a 107.8 kWh battery, one of the largest in electric cars. It provides a range of 596 kilometers on a full charge. Its consumption is 20.8 kWh/100 km, due to its weight close to 2.5 tons.

Beyond our borders, for example in Germany, two other variants are available. The base model EQS 450+, with rear-wheel drive, still uses the 265 kW engine. It, however, offers greater range thanks to its battery, up to 664 km WLTP cycle.
