Presented as a concept in 2017, the Mercedes AMG-One demanded a lot of work from the engineers of the German brand. But it is now ready to bring joy to the few lucky ones who will be able to afford it.
The production of the car has just begun, in England. The hybrid V6 is produced in Brixworth, at the factory that makes Mercedes Formula 1 engines. The car is then assembled in Coventry with Multimatic, a company specializing in chassis production for race cars.
Manufacturing a single unit involves about fifty people and is broken down into 16 steps, punctuated with numerous quality controls. Some systems are assembled once, tested, then disassembled so they can be integrated into the car. When the car is completed, it undergoes a series of tests before being sent to Affalterbach (Germany), to the Mercedes AMG facilities.
A Truly Unique Challenge
“The Mercedes-AMG ONE is the most ambitious project we have ever undertaken, from development to production“, declared Philipp Schiemer, chairman of the Mercedes-AMG GmbH board. “The production of this exclusive limited series is a truly unique challenge.“
The AMG-One will be produced in 275 units. Each will have cost around 2.75 million euros for its lucky owner. The first deliveries are expected in the second half of 2022.
In terms of performance, Mercedes promises 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 7.0 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 15.6 seconds. The top speed reaches 352 km/h.
