Although he will only start his career in 2024, the large 7-seater electric SUV Kia EV9 shares first images of its development.

When it comes to electric cars, SUVs seem to dominate the news and new releases. That’s true, but large formats were still somewhat overlooked. Normal, given their size and weight requiring large batteries for sufficient range for the average customer. It is in this category that the Kia EV9 will attempt to break through.

A 7-seater electric SUV

This is a practice that exists in the automotive industry but still surprises us. The Korean manufacturer has thus published the first photos of the production version of the Kia EV9. Except that they don’t really show the vehicle, as it is camouflaged. Why? Still in development, it is hiding its final lines to avoid inspiring competitors.

We still learn that the electric SUV is very close to the concept car. Presented in 2021, the Kia EV9 Concept showed the main features of the model. The camouflaged prototype has a lower height but retains the large dimensions to accommodate 7 people on board. It changes its headlights to resemble the new Kia Niro, includes traditional mirrors, and reduces the size of the wheels.

Still in development, here in South Korea, the Kia EV9 will not immediately arrive at dealerships. The process will take 44 months, according to the company, which shows in images the “extreme durability tests” conducted at its South Korean center. The vehicle also undergoes testing “in different parts of the planet”, such as on “the unforgiving Belgian roads”.

The unveiling of the electric SUV will only occur in the first quarter of 2023. The launch will therefore be at best at the end of the year in Europe and France. Built on the E-GMP platform already used by the EV6, the Kia EV9 will be close to its Hyundai Ioniq 7 cousin arriving in 2024. It is expected to feature a 77 kWh battery and offer a larger pack around 100 kWh to surpass 600 km of range.
