Sustainable Mobility Package: Save Money with Cycling, Train, or Car!

Up to 800 euros per year, the Sustainable Mobility Package allows savings on public transport, cycling, or electric cars.

Implemented since May 2020, the Sustainable Mobility Package helps reduce the budgets of many French people. Good news, the exemption ceiling has increased since August 2022 and is valid until 2023. This measure is made possible by the amended finance law for 2022 of August 16, 2022.

Who can receive the Sustainable Mobility Package?

This solution applies only to employees, whether in the private sector or in public service. Employers are not required to offer it, as it is optional. They can do so through a collective agreement or a decision by the employer after consulting the CSR.

The Sustainable Mobility Package covers travel costs between home and work. This includes fuel costs,electricity recharge, use of services like carpooling or ride-sharing, or rental of a scooter or bicycle.

Note: the Sustainable Mobility Package must be available to all employees, without exception, and not only to vehicle users.

Which means of transportation are covered by the Sustainable Mobility Package?

• energy expenses related to an electric, plug-in hybrid, or hydrogen car;
• carpooling (driver or passenger);
• bicycles and electric bikes (personal, rental, or shared);
• scooters and other EPDMs (personal, rental, or shared);
• mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles (rental or shared);
• car-sharing with electric, plug-in hybrid, or hydrogen vehicles;
• public transportation excluding subscription costs.

How much?

Previously capped at €600, the tax exemption ceiling has now increased to a maximum of €800. This applies when there is a subscription to public transportation combined with the mandatory coverage by the employer.

The amount is thus a maximum of €700 in other cases, and only €400 for fuel costs. It is also possible to combine the mandatory coverage of transportation subscriptions with the Sustainable Mobility Package for car expenses.

How and when to get reimbursement?

If your employer has adopted the Sustainable Mobility Package, you need to provide proof of transport expenses or subscriptions. Reimbursement is automatically made via your salary and will appear on the next payslip.

Note: the exemption ceiling is €900 in overseas departments and regions. Residents of DOM-TOM still have a ceiling of €600 for fuel costs.
