The British company SkyFly has opened orders for a small two-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing plane whose range could reach up to 320 km.

This is surely a plane that will make headlines. Somewhere between a Cessna and a drone, this new Skyfly Axe is quite original. And it enters a market segment, that of eVTOL (for electric vertical take-off and landing), which is currently booming.

Our new feature today allows for vertical takeoff just like the legendary Hawker Siddeley Harrier fighter jet. But it can also perform a traditional short takeoff, over a distance of up to 50 meters!

On the technical side, it is equipped with eight 35 kW motors. The battery has a capacity of 48 kWh, which theoretically allows it to fly 320 km with the extended range option (the standard range is about 160 km). Note that the maximum speed is set at 160 km/h, quite high for a model of this type.

Despite its compact size, the SkyFly Axe can carry two passengers, provided the total payload does not exceed 172 kg.

Many options for the SkyFly Axe

If the base price is set at €173,000, the SkyFly Axe does come with many options that could increase the cost. Starting with the €58,000 requested for the extended range, which is almost essential for an electric aircraft. Additionally, the manufacturer offers a ballistic parachute for around €23,000. Not cheap, indeed, but at Mobiwisy, we’re eager to try it out!
