BYD: Three Chinese Electric Cars Starting from €38,000

The Chinese brand BYD has confirmed the arrival of its first three electric cars, Atto 3, Han, and Tang, in France at very attractive prices.

Just two years ago, Chinese cars were mostly anecdotal, but now they are making headlines in Europe every week. The latest news is BYD announces its electric models and, above all, provides an idea of the prices for these new vehicles. Initially, the prices are specified for Germany, but we can expect similar figures here.

A BYD Atto 3 starting at €38,000

Keep its name in mind, as it could quickly establish itself. The BYD Atto 3 is a compact SUV measuring 4.46 meters in length, which is 15 cm longer than a Peugeot e-2008 or 20 cm shorter than a MG Marvel R. Powered by a 150 kW (204 hp) motor, this vehicle is more powerful than the basic MG (180 hp).

It features a 60 kWh battery, providing a range of 420 kilometers in mixed cycle. Without a direct competitor, its price is comparable to that of a base Renault Mégane E-Tech. With a starting price of €38,000, the Atto 3 offers better range and larger dimensions than the French model.

BYD Han and Tang, €20,000 cheaper than German models

The other two models from the Chinese manufacturer are significantly larger. The BYD Han EV is a sedan measuring 5 meters, comparable to Tesla Model S or Porsche Taycan. However, the price is not the same. At €72,000, it is €20,000 less than a Taycan Plus, with superior performance.

The Han boasts 380 kW (512 hp) via its two motors, compared to 300 kW (402 hp) for the German equivalent. Its 85 kWh battery also offers more kilometers per charge. The Chinese model stands out with an autonomy of 521 km, compared to 484 km for the Taycan, all with all-wheel drive (vs 2).

As for the BYD Tang EV, this 4.87-meter SUV is also targeting the premium segment. It can be compared to the Audi e-tron or BMW iX. It shares the same propulsion system as the Han, with slightly lower performance (weight, aerodynamics, etc.). But it offers 7 seats and a 940-liter trunk when configured in 5 seats. With a battery similar to the sedan’s (85 kWh), the Tang guarantees 400 km WLTP range. Finally, its price of €72,000 is unbeatable, compared to €86,450 for the iX xDrive40 (326 hp) and €94,300 for the e-tron 55 (402 hp).

All three BYD models will be present at the Paris Motor Show from October 17 to 23. They will be available in France by the end of the year, though no specific date has been announced. The Chinese brand, already established in Norway, will initially expand to Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany in the coming weeks.
