New Maserati GranTurismo Folgore: Electric Fury!

Arriving on the roads in 2023, the new Maserati Granturismo Folgore details everything, including its 3 engines delivering 761 hp.

If modern electric cars were announced by the Tesla Roadster, sports cars have not taken over the scene. They are found among the high-powered hypercars costing 2 million euros – Rimac Nevera, Pininfarina Battista, etc – but not in more affordable models. This could change with the new Maserati Granturismo Folgore.

Grand Touring in silence, or not

The new generation of the Granturismo already showcased its shape at numerous events in 2022. The silhouette of the electric “Folgore” version will be almost identical to the combustion engine version, with a few details differing (front bumper, diffuser, no exhaust). This would still allow a 7% improvement in aerodynamic coefficient (Cx), bringing it to 0.26.

But everything changes under the sleek design of the Italian sporty. Three motors handle the all-wheel drive propulsion, each producing 300 kW. Combined, the Maserati Granturismo Folgore offers 560 kW (761 hp) — limited by the battery’s capabilities — and delivers a torque of 1,350 Nm.

With this setup, 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 2.7 seconds, and the top speed would reach 320 km/h. Of course, it’s meant for track use. For daily driving, 4 modes will allow you to customize the driving experience: Max Range (max 130 km/h), GT (80% power), Sport, and Corsa. It’s even possible to switch to rear-wheel drive mode if you wish — and if the weather permits.

With a performance-oriented focus, the Folgore will not produce a silent ride, as it will simulate a V8 engine sound. However, that sound has disappeared from the thermal versions in favor of a V6.

The Maserati Granturismo Goes Quiet on Range

To provide the necessary electricity, Maserati has chosen a 92.5 kWh battery, or 83 kWh usable. With a voltage of 800 V, it can recharge as quickly as reference models like the Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT. The maximum power is 270 kW, providing 100 km of range in just 5 minutes. You will need compatible charging stations, such as Ionity, Fastned, or the new Yaway stations, to take advantage. The AC charger (alternating current) peaks at 22 kW, which is a good point for the Granturismo Folgore. The total weight is 2,260 kg.

However, the trident brand remains silent on the range of its GT. It should, however, deliver more than 400 kilometers per charge. The Maserati Granturismo Folgore will reveal more details before its launch early 2023, when it will showcase the interior.
