A common point with the original Renault 4, even though this one was also produced abroad.

The Renault group has just confirmed that the new electric 4L will be produced in France, at the Maubeuge factory. This announcement comes a few days before the Paris Motor Show, during which a concept car previewing the final Renault 4 will be presented.

Aiming to place France “at the heart of its electric activities”, Luca De Meo’s group has also chosen France for the next Scénic, another upcoming electric model. This vehicle will roll off the assembly lines at the Douai plant, which, together with the Maubeuge site, forms an “ElectriCity hub” in Hauts-de-France.

The Douai factory has known for several months that it will produce the Renault 5 electric and the next generation Micra, two electric models that will share many components. It is also responsible for assembling the Mégane E-Tech. Meanwhile, Maubeuge has been tasked with producing the new Kangoo Electric.

The list of electric vehicles produced in France also includes the future Alpine GT crossover (Dieppe), the new Trafic Electric (Sandouville), and the upcoming Master (Batilly). The Zoe (Flins) should also be mentioned, which is waiting for the arrival of the Renault 5 to bow out.

A Cléon Motor for the Renault 5 Electric

Already responsible for the production of the Mégane E-Tech motor, the Cléon plant will also assemble the motor for the upcoming R5 electric, which will deliver 100 kW (136 hp). In 2027, Cléon will produce a new electric motor, jointly developed by Renault and Valeo. Without rare earth elements, this unit will deliver 200 kW, approximately 272 hp.

The new Renault electric models are expected to gradually enter production in 2024 (beginning of the year for the Scénic, mid-year for the R5, and end of year for the 4L). The van version of the Renault 4 is expected in 2025.
