Renault 4L 4Ever Trophy Concept Mondial Auto 2022 (3)

Discover through photos the concept cars and new releases at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, from French to Chinese, sporty to city cars.

After a 4-year absence, the Motor Show returns to Paris! But it has changed a lot over time, with a smaller space and fewer exhibitors. Will this spoil the celebration? Not necessarily, as there are still crowds. And if you can’t make it before it closes on October 23? No worries, we’re showing you everything happening this Monday, October 17, full of events and exclusive interviews!

Renault, between 4L Trophy and R5 electric turbo

The day kicks off strongly with the Diamond brand. It’s not even 9 a.m. when Renault opens the festivities with several global premieres….

Finally, the veil is lifted on the future Renault 4, now presented as a concept car. The Renault 4EVER Trophy pays homage to the iconic French city car, as well as its variations from the 4L Trophy.

Measuring 4.16 meters in length and 1.95 meters wide, the Renault 4EVER Trophy stands out mainly due to its extraordinary height of 1.90 meters, resembling an off-road 4×4 of the old times. Jokes aside, this concept previews the main features of the production model, intended to be “popular” in the electric city car category and should eventually replace the Twingo E-Tech.

Hydrogen for Alpine, with its Alpenglow concept

Still within the Renault Group, but on the Alpine side, there is the supercar concept Alpenglow. Its proportions are spectacular, approximately 5 meters long and 2 meters wide. More than its style, the key feature of the Alpenglow single-seater is that it has two hydrogen tanks, which should give it a much greater range than electric models.

BYD arrives with 3 cars… and a surprise!

The Chinese manufacturer BYD, a battery specialist, already has experience in the automotive industry. After its success in China, where it now sells up to 200,000 electrified cars, it is investing in Europe and France.

The brand offers 3 fully electric models. The compact SUV is the BYD Atto 3, supported by the large sedan Han EV and the big SUV Tang EV. Alongside key partners (Continental tires, Faurecia components, etc.), BYD is teaming up with Shell for charging, even deploying dedicated hubs. To learn more, discover the BYD range here. Regarding prices, they are expected to start at around €43,000 for the Auto 3, and around €72,000 for the Han and Tang.

Additionally, the BYD Seal sedan is on its way. Also 100% electric, it should join the lineup soon.

Jeep makes its revolution with the Avenger

Jeep takes advantage of the Paris Motor Show to introduce its new Avenger. An important model for the American brand, since it’s their first electric vehicle.

Measuring 4.08 meters long, the Avenger aims to find its place in the urban electric SUV segment. Visually, it does not attempt to stray from Jeep’s usual style. The features are angular, and the 7-slot grille is very recognizable. The Avenger is equipped with a 54 kWh battery, which provides a theoretical range of 400 km. Its electric motor delivers 115 kW, or 156 horsepower.

A “4X4” concept supports the electric SUV, giving it a more rugged look. With all-wheel drive, it could soon have a production version.

At Aixam, a new Mega fully electric as an anniversary gift

On the Aixam side, the main attraction at this Motor Show is called Mega eScouty. This small electric vehicle was created to celebrate Mega’s 30th anniversary, which started with the incredible Mega Track with a V12 engine.

The eScouty is limited to 45 km/h and can therefore be driven without a license from age 14, similar to the Citroën AMI. Its motor delivers 6 kW, and the battery provides up to 75 km of range. The Mega e-City is available starting at €15,899.

Two VinFast in the spotlight, and two more for 2023

After a modest appearance at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Vinfast becomes concrete in 2022. The Vietnamese manufacturer switches to 100% electric with its first two models: the VF8 and VF9. What’s special about them? A triple offer between outright purchase, battery leasing, and full leasing.

Large and therefore likely with limited diffusion, they will be joined by the VF6 and VF7, two smaller SUVs, similar to the Peugeot e-2008 and BYD Atto 3. They will arrive in France during 2023, at prices still unknown.

Peugeot with the new 408

New this fall, the crossover has tried to animate a stand that, unlike Renault, did not showcase concept cars.

The Peugeot 408, available in several colors, displayed its plug-in hybrid version. With 180 or 225 horsepower, it is also starting its career, revealing its prices.

Great Wall plans two brands: Ora and Wey

As for the large Chinese group Great Wall Motors, their entry into the European market will be through two entities. The first will be Ora, a brand of rounded electric cars. It will debut with the Ora Funky Cat, a compact size similar to the Renault Megane E-Tech or Volkswagen ID.3.

The second brand is Wey, named after its founder. More upscale, it will start with a large plug-in hybrid SUV. The Coffee 01 is quite spacious for us Europeans, but a second model, the Coffee 02, was also displayed to offer a more modest size. Wey and Ora, starting in Germany at the end of the year, are expected to arrive in France around 2023.
