Rocks e-xtreme, Opel’s slightly crazy project

This Opel Rocks e-xtrem is quite astonishing. Admittedly, it only exists as computer-generated images for now, but Opel indeed plans to build one.

The car was conceived as part of a contest initiated by Opel. The German manufacturer invited student designers to imagine their version of the Rocks-e. Among all the submissions, it is this particularly radical interpretation that was selected. It is the work of Lukas Wenzhöfer, a student at Pforzheim University in Baden-Württemberg.

“The Opel Rocks-e allows young people to stay mobile and enjoy a filter-free driving experience. My concept builds on these points and pushes them to the extreme”, explained the young man. Transformed into a miniature 4×4, his Rocks-e does not go unnoticed with its widened tracks, external roll cage, and large rear spoiler. The latter could almost make one believe that the car, restricted to 45 km/h in its original version, has some sporting ambitions, or at least has gained a few horsepower.

A Different Fate from the Ami Buggy

While the AMI Buggy was produced in limited quantities, the Opel Rocks e-xtrem will never be sold commercially, not even in a limited series. Opel plans to produce only one unit. The technical details are not discussed, so it is impossible to know if the manufacturer considers changing the engine or installing a new, larger-capacity battery.
