Paris 2-Wheel Vehicle Parking: How Many Penalty Notices in 2 Months?

Since the implementation of paid parking in Paris, authorities have already issued approximately 200,000 fines in 3 months.

With the introduction of paid parking for motorized two-wheelers, the Paris city hall, facing financial difficulties, has found a new revenue stream that appears to be quite lucrative. Since the measure came into effect on September 1st, the system has been operating at full capacity. In fact, around 200,000 fines (or post-parking fees, to use the official terminology) have been issued to motorcycle and scooter users. This figure can be put into perspective with the 760,000 motorized two-wheelers registered in Paris and the surrounding small suburbs.

The city hall does not hide its satisfaction. “We are in the process of transforming motorization patterns”, says David Belliard, deputy to the mayor of Paris in charge of mobility, in the columns of Le Parisien. According to the EELV representative, “thermal vehicles are writing the last chapter of their lives”.

Some still try to dodge the system. According to municipal estimates, only 40% of motorcycle and scooter riders paid for parking in October. Paris assures that the payment rate will increase in the coming months. An implication that controls will become even more frequent?

Electric scooter sales become dominant in Paris

Regarding residential parking requests, 31,100 applications have been approved since September. Electric vehicle owners must also apply through the mayor’s office if they want to benefit from free parking.

This new measure has significantly impacted the Parisian two-wheeler market. Now, the share of electric vehicles surpasses that of thermal ones. Although volumes were artificially inflated by the registration of scooters like Troopy, the trend is clearly there. The question now is whether it will be confirmed when electric two-wheelers are also subjected to paid parking.
