Pininfarina Eysing PF40: A Stylish but Expensive Electric Bike

Born in the Netherlands and designed by Pininfarina, the Eysing PF40 is a unique offering in the small electric motorcycle market.

Offering electric two-wheelers with a vintage look: this has been the niche of the Dutch company Eysing since its creation in 2019. The company positions itself as a distant heir of Eysink, a Dutch manufacturer of motorcycles and cars now extinct. It has just unveiled the PF40, a new model that is as stylish as it is expensive.

The PF40 was designed by the Pininfarina studio. Powered by a 2 kW electric motor, it can reach a speed of 45 km/h (a restricted version at 25 km/h is also available). The vehicle features a 1.72 kWh lithium-ion battery which, according to Eysing, guarantees a range of over 100 km. A full charge takes about 8 hours. However, with the optional fast charger, the process is completed in half that time.

The Dutch motorcycle sits on 26-inch wheels. Although the seat is mounted on two springs, comfort is likely to severely suffer from the absence of a rear shock absorber. The drum brakes also do not seem to offer much efficacy, but may suffice on such a lightweight vehicle (60 kilograms without a passenger).

On the roads in 2024

The faux tank hides a storage compartment, but this will only hold a few personal effects. The needle gauge on the halogen headlight promotes the retro spirit of the bike, while the LED taillights add a touch of modernity. An app connected to the vehicle allows remote location tracking, making it easier to recover in case of theft.

The PF40 is expensive, very expensive even. Eysing has set its price at €13,780 excluding tax. Adding the current 20% VAT brings the total to around €16,500. These financial considerations seem to have little importance for the targeted clientele. The first deliveries are expected to take place in 2024.
