Volkswagen ID.7: The electric sedan to be unveiled in a few days?

Volkswagen is preparing to launch its fully electric version of its Passat sedan. Named ID.7, it could be unveiled at CES in Las Vegas.

During a period of a temporary automotive lull around the holiday season, with few new car releases to note, Volkswagen has just announced that it will present a new model from the ID. family after the Volkswagen ID.3, Volkswagen ID.4, Volkswagen ID.5 and the modern van Volkswagen ID. Buzz. Just days before the American debut, speculation is rife, but everyone agrees that this new model will be called Volkswagen ID.7 and will be based on the technical platform of the concept car Volkswagen ID. Aero. This large sedan will likely replace the current Volkswagen Passat, which will only be available as a station wagon.

Based on the lessons from the ID. Aero, this large sedan will thus adopt the renowned MEB technical platform but could feature an extended wheelbase to provide luxurious rear-seat comfort, especially since the absence of a transmission tunnel due to the electric motor could allow it to set records in this regard. 

Regarding the electric motor itself, the Volkswagen ID.7 could draw on the current mechanics of the Volkswagen ID. lineup, offering 170, 204, and 299 horsepower variants. The same goes for the battery, with units of 52 and 77 kWh currently available. On the ID. Aero concept car, benefiting from very aerodynamic design, Volkswagen announced an excellent WLTP range of 620 km.

Then, after the sedan, a large SUV called the Volkswagen ID.8 is expected to make its debut, although no additional details have emerged from Wolfsburg since the initial rumors about the model in 2021.

Volkswagen will have its booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center at Tech East from January 5 to 8, 2023.
