Rivian provides more details about its electric motors

The American car brand Rivian will expand its offerings in 2023. The R1T and R1S models will have a two-motor version instead of four.

With these dual motors, Rivian aims to offer its customers less extreme versions of the two electric vehicles and therefore less expensive. Currently, the Rivian R1T and R1S are only equipped with a quadruple motor, one for each wheel. Starting in 2023, this will change with the introduction of less radical versions. Rivian will offer two versions with 600 and 700 horsepower, compared to 800 hp currently.

Rivian Wants to Expand Its Range

Two batteries will be available for this new version of both models. The first will offer a range of 418 kilometers, according to the current EPA cycle in the United States (approximately 450 km according to WLTP standards). The second, of larger capacity, will allow for 640 kilometers between charges (approximately 700 km according to WLTP standards). In 2024, the manufacturer plans to add a third battery to the R1T. This will not be feasible on the R1S. Its size will not allow for a third battery onboard.

“When our Dual Motor four-wheel drive system arrives for the R1T and R1S next year, you can choose a standard version capable of delivering 600 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, or a version that increases power to about 700 horsepower, and hits 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds,” announced Rivian on Twitter.

The standard dual-motor configurations of the R1T and R1S are €7,500 more affordable when ordered with the battery pack than the quadruple motor variants. Thus, the R1T Dual Motor starts at €74,000, while the R1S Dual Motor starts at €78,000. However, since they can also be ordered with the Standard battery pack, they are even cheaper, reducing the price by €5,600.
