BYD Tang and Han EV: What Are the Prices for Chinese Electric Vehicles?

Beyond the Atto 3, the Chinese brand offers two other electric cars, the BYD Tang and Han EV, revealing their prices for France.

The Chinese automotive push is slow but steady. Less visible in France than in other European countries, it is reflected in MG’s success, which exceeded 12,600 registrations in 2022. Others aspire to do the same, like BYD, which debuted at the last Auto Show with three new models. We had already mentioned the Atto 3, the family SUV, but not yet the other two high-end models. So here are the details of the BYD Tang EV and Han EV.

The BYD Tang EV at a price of €70,800

The BYD Tang is the flagship large electric SUV. Its dimensions are impressive, measuring 4.87 meters in length, similar to an Audi Q8 e-tron or a BMW iX. It offers only one version, with a 380 kW motor (equivalent to 516 hp) and a maximum torque of 680 Nm.

The performance is high-end, with 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. It aims to a Tesla Model Y Performance, but with 7 seats as standard, and a trunk capacity of up to 1,655 liters with the rear seats folded. The range reaches 400 kilometers thanks to the 96.4 kWh battery. The equipment is comprehensive, including a panoramic sunroof, heated power front seats, vegan leather upholstery, 360° camera, 12 HP sound system, and 100% LED headlights.

Regarding pricing, the BYD Tang EV will be more competitive with the Model Y Performance (€69,990) than with higher-end German models. Its price is €70,800 in France, without considering the 2023 ecological bonus or the conversion premium. A leasing option is available at €890/month for a 48-month contract with a €5,000 down payment.

The BYD Han EV sedan, unique on the market

The BYD Han EV is based on the same platform as the Tang EV. Similar in size (4.99 m), this Chinese sedan competes with a Tesla Model S or the Porsche Taycan. Its motorization is almost identical to the SUV, with a higher torque of 700 Nm. Its slightly smaller battery (85.4 kWh) provides 521 km per charge, and its acceleration is livelier (0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds).

The price of the BYD Han EV is not surprising, as it remains the same at €70,800 upon purchase and €890 in leasing. The equipment list is also similar to the Tang. However, the Han Executive stands out at €74,400. It differentiates itself from the base version by adding a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, power tailgate, ambient interior lighting, and air purifier. The Han EV is therefore unmatched. For an electric sedan, a Porsche Taycan costs at least €91,055…
