Seres 5 2023

Second model from the brand, the Seres 5 reveals its features and pricing, and enters the competition against a certain Tesla Model Y.

The Brussels 2023 Motor Show is the stage for two new products premiering worldwide. The first was the Mazda MX-30 R-EV with its series plug-in hybrid system powered by a rotary gasoline engine. The second also comes from Asia, but from China, via the Seres 5.

Two- and Four-Wheel Drive Versions

Seres, as a reminder, is a new brand born from the partnership between the Dongfeng group and Chongqing Sokon (DFSK). Its first model was the very modest Seres 3, a compact electric SUV. However, its modern presentation conceals issues with battery management and charging, as well as an infotainment system that needs refinement.

The Seres 5 is the big brother of the 4.70 m-high, more premium model that was already introduced in 2020. Delayed, it officially arrives in Europe with some modifications. While the two front and rear motors still combine for 430 kW (577 hp) with a torque of 960 Nm, two versions are now available.

The two-wheel drive 2WD features an 80 kWh LFP battery, and the four-wheel drive version has a “semi-solid” battery of 90 kWh. These capacities give the Seres 5 a range of 500 km and 530 km respectively. The brand does not specify charging power, but going from 20% to 80% would take 40 minutes (80 kWh) or 50 minutes (90 kWh). Bi-directional charging functions V2L (to electronic devices) or V2V (to recharge other vehicles) are also available.

Is the Seres 5 a Pricey Vehicle?

The Seres 5 will not only offer high performance, but its equipment aims at the premium segment. The features include a head-up display, a large 15.6-inch central screen, automatic climate control, 360° camera, panoramic roof, heated, ventilated, and massaging driver’s seat.

The electric SUV will go on sale in March 2023 at prices well above those of the Seres 3. Prices for the Seres 5 start at €63,900 in Germany for the 2WD version, and €67,900 for the AWD version. We will have to wait to find out the exact prices in France. But compared to a Tesla Model Y, the Seres 5 struggles to compete on paper.
