Futures Renault Electric Vehicles: New Releases from 2023 to 2026

If the star of the coming years is named R5 Electric, Renault is also planning R4, Scénic, and Trafic E-Tech in its lineup.

After the Mégane E-Tech in 2022, and the Renault Kangoo in 2023, Renault is preparing several other new electric cars. R4, R5, but also Scénic and utility vehicles — discover what the French manufacturer has in store at the diamond brand.

2023: the Renault Trafic E-Tech, the latest utility vehicle

Renault was quick to electrify its Kangoo. It was in 2010, with the ZE utility mainly used by fleets and La Poste, but it wasn’t until 2018 that a bigger sibling supported it: the Master ZE, later renamed E-Tech, and even available in hydrogen H2-Tech. The third and final member of the utility range is the Trafic E-Tech, a van going electric in 2023. It will have a range of 240 km with a 52 kWh battery, a 120 hp motor, and two versions measuring 5.08 and 5.48 meters.

2024: Renault Scénic goes electric!

The next Renault electric car isn’t an entirely new model by name. The Scenic name survives the transition of the Parisian brand’s lineup, under pressure from CEO Luca De Meo, who is very nostalgic about current or retro names. But it will be a completely new vehicle. It takes the form of a 4.50-meter crossover and will be the big brother of the Megane E-Tech. The platform is shared, the CMF-EV which also powers the Nissan Ariya.

So, we won’t find a mix of hydrogen and electric technologies as in the concept car Renault Scénic Vision. The Renault Scénic E-tech electric will offer two battery sizes, and probably several motor powers. This fully electric R5 will be released in 2024 and will be produced in Douai, France.

2024: the return of the Renault 5

Nostalgia is at the heart of the renewed focus on the city car with the diamond logo. After leading the revival project of the Fiat 500, CEO De Meo is betting on the return of the R5 in electric form. This car will replace the ZOE, with a size of about 4 meters and 5 doors.

It will follow the lines of the Renault 5 Prototype concept car unveiled in 2021, and the new CMF-BEV platform. This latter does not promise miracles, with a 400-kilometer range, but at much lower prices. As for a Turbo version, it could be part of the lineup, with De Meo dreaming of seeing the R5 return to the World Rally Championship! In any case, it’s already known that Alpine is working on an R5 derivative for 2025.

The production of the electric R5 will start in 2024 in Douai, at the same site as the Scénic. Its cousin Nissan Micra is expected in 2026, and we do not yet know when the Dacia version will arrive.

2025: the Renault 4 E-Tech, the electric Captur?

Alongside the R5, Renault will launch another revival, that of the R4 or rather 4L. This Renault 4 electric won’t be smaller than the “5,” despite what its name suggests. The Renault 4 Ever Trophy concept car showed that this model is heading towards a small SUV. If the R5 is a city car with sporty accents, the electric R4 should be its SUV or crossover alter ego, similar to the Captur with the Clio. The release of this future Renault is expected in 2025, with assembly in Douai.

2026: Flex-Van, the new generation of Kangoo utility vehicles?

If the new electric Kangoo E-Tech has been available since 2022 and reached dealerships in 2023 for individuals, the new generation is on the horizon. Renault has been experimenting with electric utility vehicles for several years, via its EZ-Flex, which Mobilize has taken under its wing with the Hippo project. In 2026, the new FlexEVan platform aims to deliver an electric urban utility van, likely similar in size to the Hippo/EZ-Flex. Highly connected, this model is primarily aimed at professionals.
