Ram 1500 REV: the electric pickup makes its debut at the Super Bowl

Revealed at Superbowl 2023, the RAM 1500 REV joins the electric pickup segment occupied by Ford, Chevrolet, and soon Tesla.

Last night, the United States was completely focused on the Superbowl, the championship finale of American football. During this sporting event, brands compete fiercely to be featured in commercials sold at astronomical prices, reaching 100 million viewers. Among the ads for 2023, the electric RAM 1500 REV pickup made its world debut in a 60-second spot.

Is Ram showing off a bit early?

So, the model wasn’t unveiled at an auto show or a traditional press conference. The electric Hummer did the same in 2021. What’s surprising is the short gap between the Revolution concept car from CES 2023. It was only a month ago. Usually, manufacturers allow several months or even over a year between concept and production model.

The Ram 1500 REV thus shows its final lines, perhaps eager to display its muscles. However, the electric pickup is much less futuristic than the concept, and very close to the current internal combustion version. The American brand offers no technical details. We only know that the new STLA Frame platform from Stellantis is operational, the front trunk will be spacious, and the interior features a large vertical touchscreen. The idea is to establish a presence and attract attention, and perhaps keep future interested buyers engaged while waiting for the competition.

Ram joins a fight of five

Because the electric pickup market, though very new (since 2020), is already quite crowded. Startup Rivian aimed to be the pioneer, but it’s the Ford F-150 Lightning that makes a statement, positioning itself as a rival to traditional combustion versions.

On the other side, Chevy responded early… with images, as the GMC Hummer EV, a near 4-ton monster that just delivered its first units. More affordable and less giant, the Chevrolet Silverado EV will arrive this summer. It’s also when the Tesla Cybertruck is expected to show off its curious silhouette.

Thus, the Ram 1500 REV arrives last in this group, with deliveries scheduled for fall 2024. The company has opened reservations today, starting at 100 dollars. And that’s already significant given the lack of details about the vehicle or its price.
