Renault Clio Hybrid 2023: The Restyled Version Surprises Without Camouflage

Just under 4 years after its launch, the fifth generation of Renault Clio is getting ready for a facelift. Quite significant changes are expected at the front of the vehicle.

While not a commercial flop, the current Renault Clio has performed slightly worse than its predecessor. In France, it finished the year 2022 in 3rd place among the best-selling cars, behind the Dacia Sandero and the Peugeot 208. This average performance can be explained by the cautious approach taken by Renault’s designers. Very close to its predecessor, the Clio 5 perhaps has not made enough of an impression to match the success of the 208.

The traditional mid-career facelift should allow Renault to correct course. Apparently, the Losange brand has made substantial modifications to the car. An amateur video shot on the streets of Valencia shows significant changes at the front, with the appearance of boomerang-shaped lights. From afar, this lighting signature resembles that of a DS4, for example. It also evokes the one seen on the concept Scenic Vision H2-Tech, which provided a preview of the next generation of Scenic.

A Restyled Clio Expected in Spring

The refresh could also include some technical modifications. The range of powertrains is expected to be reduced, but the hybrid version will not be affected. Launching an entirely electric version is not on the agenda. The Zoe will remain Renault’s only small electric car on sale, until the arrival of the R5 and R4.

The restyled Clio will not only be marketed by Renault. It will also be found, as is or almost, in Mitsubishi’s lineup, where it will be sold under the name Colt. The differences between the two twins will be minimal.

Renault is expected to present the restyled Clio in spring. A few months later, Peugeot will respond by introducing an updated version of its 208.
