The future electric Corvette SUV will be launched in 2026

To reply to Ford and its Mustang Mach-E, General Motors’ sports division is preparing to give in to the SUV trend with a 100% electric model.

If I mention Corvette, you inevitably think of a sports car with a front engine and V8. A sports car capable of competing with the best European and Japanese models, both in performance and handling.

However, Corvette is about to undergo a significant transformation. The first step will see the current generation, called Corvette C8, give in to the electrification trend. The main reasons for this upcoming hybridization are the reduction of CO₂ emissions and compliance with legislation in many countries, but the American will also likely use this opportunity to improve its pure performance.

The second step will be the arrival of a fully electric SUV by 2026. Commercially, the goal is to counter the Ford Mustang Mach-E, but also to compete in the territory of the Porsche Macan electric and the Lotus Eletre.

Technically, several consistent sources report the use of the Ultium platform developed by General Motors. Built with a flexible battery architecture, it should enable vehicles equipped with it to offer a good charge capacity, with optimized consumption and better regenerative braking. Compatible with high-density 800 V batteries, it would support very fast charging at 350 kW. Additionally, a revolutionary two-speed transmission is expected to be offered.

A platform, multiple variants

The Corvette SUV would share – among other technologies – this platform with the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and Cadillac Lyriq.

In terms of style, various designers have tried to interpret the lines of the future electric Corvette SUV. Our colleagues at Carscoops, generally well-informed, suggest a design that could be close to reality, featuring a coupe-like silhouette with a raised stance, faithful to the iconic long hood of Corvettes. The interior follows the main lines of current models, with the incorporation of four sporty seats.

Let’s hope that the organization of three auto shows in the United States in 2023 (New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles) will allow us to learn more about this future family Corvette.
