Kia EV9: 7-Seater Fully Electric Vehicle (Video)

What a dilemma for families who must pay a hefty penalty for 7-seater cars. With its imposing EV9 SUV, Kia offers space and a more favorable taxation.

At Kia, there is no shortage of electric vehicles: Kia e-Soul, Kia Niro EV, and Kia EV6. But for now, there is no 7-seater 100% electric model. Large families currently need to invest in a Kia Sportage plug-in hybrid, which already benefits from exemption from the penalty. Note also that a tax provision exists for families with at least 3 children. The reduction of the CO2 penalty is 20 g/km per child, while the reduction of the weight penalty is 200 kg per child.

But let’s return to Kia and in this case the EV9. This behemoth measuring 4.93 meters long and 2.06 meters wide harks back to the roots of SUV design, with very masculine and sharply cut lines. It could be a rival to a Land Rover Defender or a Mercedes G-Class, with the particularity of not consuming a single drop of petrol. Because this Kia EV9 runs on electricity and shares the E-GMP technical platform with the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Hyundai Ioniq 6 (read our full review of the new Hyundai Ioniq 6).

Two or four-wheel drive

It is very likely that it will adopt the most powerful electric motor, with 306 hp, combined with the 73 kWh battery and all-wheel drive. A two-wheel drive variant will probably be offered afterwards.

The official presentation of the new Kia EV9 will no longer take place at the Geneva Motor Show, which disappeared from the calendar in March, but in two weeks at a digital press conference. Stay tuned!
