Volkswagen ID.2 All: Here is the Future 2025 Electric Polo

To illustrate the upcoming affordable electric car at €25,000, the Volkswagen ID.2 all will showcase tonight a connection to the Polo before the production version scheduled for 2025.

The Volkswagen ID.3 has not yet entered the second phase of its career, as its little sister is on the horizon. Launched in 2020 in France, the compact electric vehicle is expected to receive a facelift this fall, with some aesthetic tweaks and a more upscale interior. But the future companion already exists in the background and is called ID.2 all.

Inspiration Polo, Golf interior space

To overshadow the 2021 ID.Life concept, which was to illustrate the ID.2, Volkswagen starts from a blank slate under the guidance of Andreas Mindt, the new designer. No more plastic SUV, hello to a traditional city car. More mainstream and closer to current thermal productions, this concept shows what this vehicle of about 4.05 meters will look like.

Clearly, the design draws from the Golf and Polo, with dimensions close to the latter. Conventional on the outside, with a rear reminiscent of the Renault Mégane E-Tech, this electric Polo features a spacious interior with a 490-liter trunk, worthy of a compact.

The German manufacturer promises a production version by 2025, manufactured in Spain at Martorell alongside the Cupra Rebel. For now, under the name ID.2, there were also whispers that the name ID.Golf might be considered, which seems unsuitable for a vehicle of this size. Maybe for the future ID.3?

An electric Volkswagen ID.2 or Polo for €25,000?

Although a city car, the Volkswagen ID.2 all offers a power of 226 hp and performance similar to a small sports car. Useful? Anyway, the battery capacity appears to be around 50 kWh, aiming for a range of 450 km. Additionally, charging between 10% and 80% could take only 20 minutes.

Company CEO Thomas Schäfer added this regarding the electric reputation of the Polo: “If we are going to use the same name as this vehicle, we don’t yet know. We are currently working on these iconic names in the future to make sense within the range.”

The big news about the future Volkswagen ID.2 is the price. While the ID.3 starts at over €46,000, this new version is promised to start at… €25,000! That would make it one of the cheapest electric cars on the market, below the current Renault Twingo (€25,250), and close to the upcoming electric R5. However, beware of promises, as the ID.3 that was supposed to start at €30,000 never materialized (excluding incentives). At best, its small 58 kWh battery only authorized a price of €33,890 in 2021.

A little sister ID.1 at €20,000?

In addition to this Volkswagen ID.2 electric car, the entry-level model will be even cheaper. According to Autocar, Volkswagen is considering an ID.1 with a base price around €20,000. This would be unprecedented, considering that the current e-up!, which is smaller, costs €27,945 and has never dropped below €25,000.

These Volkswagen ID.2 and ID.1 are part of the group’s €122 billion investment plan in electric vehicles and digital technology by 2027. This includes new MEB “Plus” or SSP platforms and brands like Skoda, Audi, Porsche, or Cupra. Ten new Volkswagen electric models are expected to appear over the next three years.
