Kia EV5: A Concept Car for the Future Family Electric SUV

Just presented the EV9, here comes its little brother EV5 with a very similar style, and soon for Europe?

The Kia EV9 hasn’t revealed all its details yet, but a smaller model is already making waves. During a “Kia Chinese EV Day” dedicated to China, the manufacturer introduced the Kia EV5 concept car. Appearing more compact but still family-oriented with 4 seats, it should measure around 4.70 meters. 

A large electric SUV prioritizing interior space

Between the EV6 and the EV9, Kia has chosen. It almost copies everything from its larger sibling EV9, to the point of making it a “mini version.” Aside from a few details like headlamp cutouts, taillights, or wheel arches, everything is almost identical. Could the Kia EV5 even be a shortened variant, or with a smaller wheelbase?

In any case, the interior is also very similar when comparing the 2021 EV9 concept and the EV5. Double-flat steering wheel, two contiguous screens, pedals, floating dashboard—all are there. The 4-seater cabin offers spacious seats and a trunk housing a wooden bench at the back to “enjoy stargazing” during outings. Bad news, however—no power or range figures are available yet.

Thus, with this Kia EV5, the brand would have five electric vehicles in its lineup. Indeed, the compact e-Soul leads the range, followed by the recent Niro Electric, then EV6, and soon the EV9.

The Kia EV5 in Europe?

Primarily, the Kia EV5 will debut in China. The South Korean manufacturer will unveil the production version “later this year,” but hints at a possible launch elsewhere: “all details regarding future plans for other markets will be provided in due course”.
