Technical inspection for two-wheelers will begin in early 2024

The government had two months to implement mandatory technical inspections for two-wheelers, following a request from the Council of State. The Minister Delegate for Transport, Clément Beaune, approved the measure which will come into effect in 2024. 

The announcement was made on the media Brut this Saturday. It is an EU requirement that the French State had not yet complied with. In 2024, motorized two-wheelers will be required to undergo a technical inspection, similar to that for cars, whether they are combustion, electric, or hybrid.

A measure starting in 2024

The technical inspection is expected to be implemented in January 2024, with some specificities. Only two-wheel vehicles registered before “January 1, 2017” will be affected by this measure. Two-wheelers will then need to pass the technical inspection “every five years for the first time, and then every three years.” “All two-wheelers are affected” by this new measure, from 50 cc to 125 cc, continued the Minister Delegate for Transport. 

What will be the cost of the technical inspection? 

The Minister wishes for the cost of the CT2R (technical inspection for two-wheelers) to be as low as possible, “around fifty euros.” “This is under discussion with technical centers to put pressure and lower the price as much as possible.” 

“Sport-use motorcycles that do not circulate on public roads” are not included in this new reform, continued Clément Beaune.
