Multiple-phase increase
An initial upgrade phase for the factory is planned, involving an expansion that will improve production. It is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. Only after that will the Tesla electric vehicle million-unit project see the light of day.
The American company aims to produce 1 million vehicles per year. Currently, they are not at full capacity, producing only 250,000 Model Y vehicles. A number still far from what the CEO envisions.
Regarding the factory itself, it will cover an area of 490,000 square meters, reveals sources, with 22,500 employees, double the current number.
Growing local economy
The Tesla factory has enabled the region to experience growth far above the national average. The GDP has increased by 3.3% for the region, compared to 1.8% for the country. The Brandenburg Ministry of Economics expressed its joy at seeing such an effective economy thanks to the factory: “The impact of Tesla’s production launch in Grünheide on the region’s economic power is now evident.”
