Rimac beats Tesla and sets a new Nürburgring lap record (video)

Records are falling one after another. Just a few weeks after the Tesla Model S broke the lap record at the Porsche Taycan Turbo, it’s Rimac’s turn to beat Tesla.

The 20.8 km lap was completed in 7’05”298, which is just under 20 seconds faster than the previous record held by the Tesla Model S Plaid with a time of 7’25”231. Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly present in our cars and will be even more so by 2035. However, electric cars are not only for family vehicles for vacations; they are also present in sports cars.

Rimac for a Track Record

We suspected it; the battle for the best Nürburgring lap is far from over. The Croatian company was eager to beat this new record, with its Rimac Nevera producing 1,914 hp, equipped with Michelin Cup2R tires. Its opponent (not on the track) was the Tesla Model S Plaid, which has more than 1,000 hp. During its lap record, the Tesla was also fitted with Michelin Cup2R tires.

Is this record far from thermal or hybrid cars?

The current record holder for the track is none other than the Mercedes AMG ONE, which on November 10, 2022, covered the same distance in 6’35”185, 50 seconds faster. Power, however, favors the Croatian company, with 1914 vs. 1063 hp. However, the weight favors Mercedes, which weighs “only” 1,695 kg compared to Rimac’s 2,150 kg. That’s a difference of 455 kg, a weight gap that is reflected in the lap times.
