Tesla Cybertruck Breaks Reservation Records

According to early estimates, Tesla could be sitting on no less than 2 million reservations for its Cybertruck even before production begins.

Since its unveiling the Cybertruck has ignited passions. It’s very simple, either you love it or hate it, but it’s impossible to remain indifferent. The presentation of the first prototype in 2019 was the subject of many mockeries, including the famous demo of the unbreakable window, which ended up being quite fragile.

However, it helped focus all attention on this atypical vehicle. Elon Musk announced that Tesla had recorded more than 250,000 reservations for the Cybertruck in the week following the vehicle’s reveal.

Such a phenomenon is often doomed to fade once the frenzy of novelty wears off, but not for the Cybertruck. In 2021, a reservation count already showed pre-orders exceeding 1 million units. Of course, these figures should be treated with caution since they are unverifiable, but everything suggests that Tesla is not bluffing.

Besides the certainty of standing out at the wheel of such a machine, Tesla played it smart by only requiring a refundable deposit of $100 to “reserve” a Cybertruck. A small amount, and at worst, a nice keepsake with the message exchanges if the sale doesn’t go through. Between pre-order and firm order, industry estimates suggest a withdrawal rate of 20%, which would still make the Cybertruck one of the best-selling pickups in the world.

A final note. We’re talking about 2 million pre-orders for a vehicle whose final price and configurations are unknown. Tesla’s magic continues to operate.
